MCR Series (charge only) and MCDR Series (charge/discharge) are designed for wet container formation. The cabinets contain multiple circuits and are mainly used for container formation of automotive batteries. Typically 18 up to 24 of these batteries are connected in series and connected to one circuit. But also other batteries such as UPS batteries or motorcycle batteries can be connected. In this case the size and capacity of the batteries determine the current and voltage ranges and subsequently the number of circuits per cabinet.
Standard cabinets consist of 6 identical 100A circuits, 12 or 16 identical 60A or 30 A circuits and 60 identical 5A circuits. Each circuit is isolated from each other by using individual secondary windings of the main transformer and can be equipped with either a 6-pulse-SCR-bridge or an IGBT power module. The Battery Manager formation software allows to run each circuit either individually, in groups or in parallel. Battery Manager is a database oriented software for the control and administration of battery-related processes in the formation and laboratories as well as for the production planning and supervision
Options, such as temperature input channels, data-logger with up to 80 channels, digital in- and outputs and a complete waterbath control allow manifold customized applications.
Each of our cabinets is designed with operator safety in mind. The systems’ isolated secondaries on the main transformer reduce the risk of electrical shock, and a main circuit breaker protects personnel when performing maintenance on the rectifier cabinet. Each circuit is protected by a 3-pole breaker and contactor to isolate the circuit from the high voltage of the main transformer and the string of batteries.
- Reliable and accurate formation. Batteries are formed exactly as per specification, each and every time.
- Charge/Discharge models regenerate battery energy into the AC power lines during discharge operation eliminating wasted energy and unnecessary heating of the ambient air.
- Drop down modules for easy maintenance and minimal circuit down time.
- Each circuit uses 3 phase, full wave rectification with inductive filtering to minimize DC ripple and maximize power efficiency.
- Main transformer has isolated secondaires to provide the highest circuit stability.
- High speed communication with host PC via TCP/IP .
- Designed to readily integrate with Battery Manager Formation Software.
The MCR is mainly used for the formation of all kinds of lead-acid batteries. The MCDR is used for the formation of all kinds of batteries which require discharge operation. Individual battery voltages are recorded by using an external data-logger which is connected via CAN bus. In most of todays applications MCR and MCDR rectifiers are installed in combination with water cooling to do the initial charge for automotive batteries at reduced process times. Due to the efficient cooling higher charging currents can be achieved compared to air cooling. 30 amps for small car batteries, 50/60 amps for most of the car and truck batteries and 100 amps for heavy truck batteries are typical current ranges when using water-cooled formation.

All essential circuit components such as fuses, pulse control boards, SCR's, and contactors are housed in drop-down modules. These modules can be easily serviced in the event of a component failure.
